What! Pakistan Behind Pahalgam Attack: Shocking Analysis

Pahalgam, often referred to as the “Mini Switzerland” of Jammu and Kashmir, is renowned for its natural beauty and tranquillity. However, the terrorist attack on April 22, 2025, in this paradise-like destination shook not only India but the entire world. The attack claimed the lives of 26 innocent people, mostly tourists, and left several others injured.

The terrorist organisation “The Resistance Front” (TRF), linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack. Yet, the truth behind this attack and its connections to Pakistan have once again strained India-Pakistan relations. In this blog post, we will explore the various aspects of the attack, Pakistan’s role, and its consequences in detail.

The terrorist attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran Valley was a chilling assault on Hindus and humanity. The terrorists targeted Hindu tourists who had come to enjoy the scenic beauty of this valley. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers first checked the religious identities of the tourists and then selectively targeted Hindus. Some victims were asked to recite the “Kalma,” and those who couldn’t were shot dead. The brutality of this attack made it clear that it was not just a terrorist act but a meticulously planned massacre aimed at disrupting Kashmir’s peace and creating religious divisions.

Among the victims of the “Pakistan Behind Pahalgam” attack were two foreign tourists (from the United Arab Emirates and Nepal), which brought the incident into the international spotlight. In response, the Indian government took swift and stringent measures, including suspending the 1960 Indus Water Treaty, closing the Attari-Wagah border post, and cancelling visa services for Pakistani citizens. These steps underscored India’s firm stance, but the question remains: will these measures provide a lasting solution to this issue?

Pakistan’s history of supporting terrorism is no secret. Several pieces of evidence point to Pakistan’s involvement in the Pahalgam attack. According to intelligence sources, three of the five to six terrorists involved in the attack were Pakistani nationals who had recently infiltrated Kashmir. Additionally, two local Kashmiri terrorists, who had travelled to Pakistan in 2018, were also part of the attack. This indicates that Pakistan not only trains and arms terrorists but also facilitates their infiltration into India.

The Pakistani military and its intelligence agency, the ISI, have long-standing ties with terrorist organisations like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed. Just days before the Pahalgam attack, Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir described Kashmir as Pakistan’s “jugular vein” and emphasised promoting the “two-nation theory.” Many analysts viewed his statement as a signal to terrorist groups, following which this attack occurred.

Moreover, in “Pakistan Behind Pahalgam”, the weapons used in the attack, such as American M4 rifles sourced from Afghanistan through the Taliban, further expose Pakistan’s role in supporting terrorism. The timing and execution of the attack also suggest a deliberate attempt to target Kashmir’s economic progress and peace. In 2024, over 5 lakh pilgrims participated in the Amarnath Yatra, and Pahalgam became a major tourist destination. The attack’s timing and method aimed to derail this progress.

Following the Pahalgam attack, India not only took tough diplomatic steps but also reinforced its commitment to combating terrorism. Prime Minister Narendra Modi shortened his visit to Saudi Arabia to return to Delhi and review the security situation. Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Pahalgam and met with the victims’ families. India implemented five major measures against Pakistan after the cowardly attack “Pakistan Behind Pahalgam”:

1. Suspension of the Indus Water Treaty: The 1960 treaty was suspended immediately, a significant blow to Pakistan, which relies heavily on the Indus River’s waters.
2. Closure of the Attari-Wagah Border: The only active land border between the two nations was shut down.
3. Cancellation of Visas for Pakistani Citizens: India terminated visa services for Pakistani nationals and ordered Pakistanis in India to leave by May 1.
4. Reduction in Diplomatic Ties: India further limited its diplomatic relations with Pakistan.
5. Intensified Search for Terrorists: The Jammu and Kashmir Police released sketches of three terrorists involved in the attack and announced a reward of ₹20 lakh for information on each.

These measures strengthened India’s strategy to isolate Pakistan on the international stage. However, some opposition parties, such as Shiv Sena (UBT), labelled the attack a “failure of intelligence” and questioned why no prior warning of such a large-scale attack was received.

The Pahalgam attack was condemned worldwide. Countries like Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom described it as a crime against humanity. However, Pakistan denied any responsibility, labelling it an internal issue for India. This stance once again proved that Pakistan is not serious about combating terrorism.

The attack has posed several challenges for India. The first is to restore tourism and peace in Kashmir. The second is to strengthen border security to prevent terrorist infiltration. The third, and most significant, challenge is to hold Pakistan accountable for supporting terrorism.

The Pahalgam attack was not just a terrorist incident but a consequence of Pakistan’s decades-long policy of destabilising Kashmir, so we can also call this cowardly attack “Pakistan Behind Pahalgam”. It not only claimed innocent lives but also targeted Kashmir’s peace and prosperity. India’s strong response has made it clear that it will not compromise in its fight against terrorism. However, a permanent solution to this issue is possible only if Pakistan abandons its terrorism-supporting policies.

In “Pakistan Behind Pahalgam Attack,” the blood spilt in the beautiful valleys of Pahalgam reminds us of the heavy price of peace. It is the responsibility of all of us to unite against terrorism and restore Kashmir as the paradise it has always been.
