ED raid in Ranchi: Rs 35 crore recovered

On Monday, ED raided 6 locations, including that of Jharkhand Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam’s OSD Sanjeev Kumar Lal, and recovered around Rs 35 crore. Of this amount, about Rs 30 crore was found in the house of OSD servant Jahangir Alam. Jahangir is originally from Chatra.

The ED took this action on Monday in the money laundering case related to engineer Virendra Ram, close to Alamgir. ED had received information about money being deposited at some places and its transit being done at some places. At 4:00 in the morning, the team started raiding the houses of Alamgir’s OSD, his servant Jahangir Alam, contractor Munna Kumar, and engineers and recovered a stock of notes and jewellery.

During the raid, a stock of notes was found in three rooms. ED reached Sir Syed Residency, located in the Gaadi Khan area of Ranchi, and raided Jahangir’s voice in flat number one. Jahangir is said to be close to Minister Alamgir Alam. During the raid, cupboards were found locked in three rooms. He told me about not finding the key. After asking for the keys from OSD Sanjeev’s place, ED found five Rs 500 notes each and jewelry worth lakhs in three rooms, which have been seized.

Huge amount recovered in transfer-posting

On Monday, ED recovered about Rs 35 crore from 6 places, including Jharkhand Rural Minister Alamgir Alam’s OSD Sanjeev Kumar Lal. ED’s investigation has revealed that a huge amount was recovered in transfer-posting, along with cutbacks in the contracts issued by the department. The ED team is interrogating Sanjeev Lal, assistant Jahangir, Munna, and others. Jahangir has accepted that Sanjeev kept the money at his place. ED’s Additional Director, Kapil Raj, also reached Jahangir’s residence.

After the recovery of the notes, Sanjeev Lal, Jahangir, Munna, and others are being interrogated. According to the information, Jahangir has confessed that Sanjeev Kumar Lal had kept the money here. Munna told me that the money recovered from his place was also to reach the flat located at Sir Syed Residency, but before that, the ED conducted a raid and recovered the money.

Advocacy letters related to the allotment of contract lease were also received

Seeing the seriousness of the matter, ED’s Additional Director Kapil Raj himself reached Jahangir Alam’s flat. He started the investigation in his own presence. During the investigation, huge evidence of extortion in transfer-posting has also been found.

Illegal earnings of suspended Virendra Ram also revealed

ED has started investigating the illegal earnings and misdeeds of the suspended Chief Engineer Virendra Ram of Jharkhand Rural Development Minister, and corruption has also been exposed in the Rural Development Department and Rural Works Department. Virendra Ram admitted before the ED that he used to get 3.2 percent commission on every tender, of which only 0.3% was his. ED investigated and found that the commission money was distributed among the syndicate of politicians, officers, and engineers.

22 tenders worth Rs 62 crore were given in lieu of one vehicle

Virendra Ram had admitted before the ED that 3.2 percent commission was taken from the contractor on each tender value. where the Chief Engineer’s share was 0.3 to 1%. 7.82 lakhs found in Ashok Nagar in the raid on February 21, 2023, also belonged to the commission. During the investigation, Virendra Ram used to drive the car of Gilas contractor Rajesh. It was given 22 tenders worth Rs 62 crore in 2015. Virendra Ram had taken Rs 1.88 crore as commission.

ED had raided 24 locations in four states of Virendra Ram, former Chief Engineer of Rural Development Minister. It was revealed that Virendra Ram had acquired property worth Rs 125 crore. Apart from eight expensive vehicles, ED has also found documents of six luxurious houses from Virendra Ram’s hideouts.

Income Tax Department raided half a dozen locations in three states associated with MP Dheeraj Sahu. On the second day, Rs 200 crore cash was found from the office of Balangir in Orissa.
