When it was declared that he would get the Dadasaheb Phalke award, India’s most noteworthy award in cinema, Bollywood on-screen character and BJP pioneer Mithun Chakraborty devoted it to his family and fans, saying he “came from a contract path in Kolkata.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted on X to praise Chakraborty: “I am enchanted that Shri Mithun Chakraborty ji has been regarded with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Grant in acknowledgment of his unparalleled commitment to Indian cinema. He is a social symbol who has been appreciated for eras for his flexible acting. Congrats and best wishes to him.” West Bengal BJP unit pioneers moreover saluted Chakraborty.
BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar on Monday said on X, “Congrats, Mithun Chakraborty Da, for your uncommon cinematic travel! Earlier, Mithun Chakraborty had won the National Film Award for Best On-screen Character three times. He acted in hundreds of movies in Hindi and Bengali.
West Bengal has a long list of film identities who have gotten this award, counting names like Bengali filmmaker and author of Unused Theaters Calcutta, Birendranath Sarkar, who won the grant in 1970. Pankaj Mullick, who was an on-screen character, composer, and artist in the Bengali film industry, got the award in 1972, taken after by Bengali movies performing artist and executive Dhirendranath Ganguly in 1975.
