A sensation spread when a woman’s body was found in a fridge kept in a closed room in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh. The woman was murdered 10 months ago, and the body was kept in the fridge. She was living in a live-in relationship. She was murdered by her live-in partner along with his friend. The police have arrested the accused. His partner is in Rajasthan jail for another crime. The police are preparing to take him on remand. The incident was revealed when the lock of the room was broken and the fridge was closed after going inside.

The case is of Vrindavan Dham Colony located on the bypass road of Dewas city. On Friday morning, tenant Balveer Singh complained to the police about the smell coming from the closed room. After this, the Bank Note Press police station reached the spot, got the room, and recovered the body from the fridge. The FSL team that reached the spot investigated thoroughly and collected evidence. Before Friday, on Wednesday night, for the first time, Balveer along with his family broke the lock of the closed house, cleaned the rooms, and turned off the fridge. The fridge was off since Wednesday night, and that is why the smell started coming from it.

Stopped paying rent, locked the room

According to the police, the landlord Dhirendra Srivastava had given this house on rent to Sanjay Patidar in July 2023. Sanjay vacated the house in June 2024 but had left some of his belongings in two rooms, including a fridge. The woman’s body was found in it. During this time, Sanjay used to come here but was neither vacating the house completely nor paying the rent.

The smell came when the fridge was turned off

Speaking to the media at the Bank Note Press Police Station, SP Puneet Gehlot said that Balveer Singh Rajput had been living on rent with his family since July in the house of Dhirendra Srivastava living in Indore after Sanjay Patidar vacated the house. The tenant living in this house before Balveer had locked two rooms. Balveer opened these rooms on Wednesday night, cleaned them, and closed the fridge. A foul smell started when the room was opened again on Friday morning. After this, the police were informed.

The accused is a resident of Ujjain

On Balveer’s information, the police reached the spot and inquired in the neighbourhood. Investigation revealed that before Balveer, Sanjay Patidar, a resident of the Ingoria police station area, Ujjain district, lived in the said house. Pratibha alias Pinky Prajapati lived in the house with Sanjay. Neighbours told me that no one had seen Pratibha since March 2024. Sanjay Patidar had said that Pratibha had gone to her maternal home. As soon as this was known, a team along with ASP Jaiveer Bhadauria reached Ujjain to arrest Sanjay.

They were in a live-in relationship for five years

Sanjay Patidar, who was arrested from Ujjain, said that he was living in a live-in relationship with Pratibha for five years. After keeping Pratibha in Ujjain for three years, he brought her to Dewas two years ago. He kept her here on rent. Sanjay said that from January 2024, Pratibha started pressuring him for marriage. He was fed up with her. Sanjay is already married.

Strangled her and kept the body in the fridge

The accused said that he planned her murder with his friend Vinod Dave, who also lives in Ingoria. In March, Pratibha was strangled at a rented house, and the body was put in the fridge. The fridge was covered with a cloth. The room was locked after stacking the stuff. According to the police, Vinod Dave, a friend of the main accused Sanjay Patidar, had a crime registered against him in Tonk, Rajasthan, in which case he is currently lodged in a Rajasthan jail.

The police there are being contacted. Sanjay will be taken on remand and questioned. Not much detail has been found about the woman yet. The police are investigating. At the same time, the post-mortem of the woman’s body has been done by a panel of doctors.
