IPL 2024 Final: Kolkata Knight Riders captured the title after a decade
After a decade, the Kolkata Knight Riders’ dream of winning the title has been fulfilled. Kolkata completely defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in all three departments of the game—bowling, batting, and fielding –—and lifted the IPL title for the third time in its history. After the brilliant performance of the bowlers, on the basis of Venkatesh Iyer’s unbeaten 52 runs and Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s useful innings of 39 runs, Kolkata defeated Hyderabad by 8 wickets in a one-sided fashion in Chennai on Sunday.
While batting, Hyderabad was reduced to just 113 runs. After that, Kolkata, who came to bat in the second innings, ended their 10-year-long IPL drought by chasing the target in just 10.3 overs. In the history of the IPL, Kolkata has reached the finals four times, out of which it has captured the trophy three times. Before this, KKR had also become champions in 2012 and 2014.
Captain Pat Cummins scored the most runs for Hyderabad. This is the same Hydrabad that scored the biggest scores while batting first three times in this year’s IPL season, but at the time when it had the highest expectations from its batsmen, its batsmen disappointed them and showed fearlessness on a big stage. Failed to bat.

Kolkata Knight Riders won the book but also gave an unforgettable defeat to Hyderabad. Kolkata’s bowlers created such a storm on the Chepauk ground in Chennai that Hyderabad’s batting collapsed like a house of cards. The entire team could score only 113 runs after playing 18.3 overs and also lost all its wickets. This is the lowest score in the final in the history of the IPL.
